BRAVE

Class XB - 2015/2016

Everyone wants to be considered Brave person although he/she is actually not strong, brave or confident.  He/she actually does not have the courage to do things that other people do not think are especially difficult.

Well, I am one of God’s creations like you and as God’s creation, I have been granted with mind, conscience, and free will.

God gave me mind to think, feel emotions and understand things, so that I can consider something, an idea or opinion, or a set of ideas about a particular subject. In addition, my mind riches of intelligence and this intelligence has reasoning power that empowers me to learn, learn and learn to do things in intelligent way.

Why should I learn? I indeed should learn to recognize God’s knowledge, to accept it and to work at it as the Holy Scripture wrote “A Person’s thoughts are like water in the deep well, but someone with insight can draw them out (Proverb 20:5)”. My thought can enable my mind to think about something; to think about life, humanity and universe.

God gave me conscience to judge how moral my own actions are and makes me feel guilty about bad things that I have done or things I feel responsible for. My conscience gives me an ability to balance my intellect and emotion to make good decisions and judgments.

God gave me free will or ability to decide what to do independently of any outside influence.

By those gifts, I am really sure I will become a brave person, however, as a human, sometimes, my action, decision or judgment produces an unwanted or unintentional result. I realize if I am not free from what we call mistakes. I am not perfect.

Being complete and correct in every way seems impossible for nothing in the world is perfect. Perfect is immortal and belongs to God, whereas human being is mortal and worldly. Becoming perfect must be difficult because I live in a world of corrupt and sinful people (Phil 2:15b). In addition, I content with weakness, insults, hardships, persecutions and difficulties (2Cor 12:10a). They are the yoke and load offered by the world and so whoever takes them must be very tired.

Must I escape from this world? No! I should encourage myself to build me a Brave person.

Brave is a meaningful for everyone but am I brave now? I am afraid I preserve no right to judge myself a brave person. Somehow, I am learning to become a brave person. I must become brave person. By bravery, I can recognize who I am and learn to build my confidence to express my own opinions and desires strongly, so that people take notice.

How could other people take notice to my own opinions, desires and action? How could I show that I am someone who can influence other people through my behavior, attitude and good deed? Well, I must become BRAVE person. I should become someone who is BRAVE. My BRAVE here stands for Brilliant, Responsive, Accomplishment, Valuable and Excellent.

Well, let me show you my Brave here:

Brilliant:

I am student and I am learning to become brilliant student. What I should do is I must encourage myself growing brilliant. I should become brilliant student who has brilliant performance base on brilliant ideas, planning and action so that I will have a brilliant career ahead of me.

Responsive, Receptive and Reasonable

Responsive:

When I am brilliant, I will positively act appropriately base on problems I encountered. Brilliant gives me ability to maintain perspective and have an alternative solution or the best course of action when I face with a unique situation – I can do this because Brilliant gives me good perspective. I am able to see a good overall picture.

I actually, I must not only grow responsive but also Receptive and Responsible.

• Receptive:

When I am Brilliant, I will become open minded person or I will have good willing to consider ideas and opinions that are new or different to my own either in the form of data, creativity and new ideas. As a receptive person, I am willing to humble myself in the position of " Beginner," a position that is always encouraged to want and continue to learn anything and from anyone though I am actually genius at the field or classified as an expert. I love learning and working together.

Reasonable:

When I grow brilliant, I am growing reasonable. As a reasonable person, I have the ability to see things freely without tendency to justify myself; Because I know the tendency to justify myself often become a barrier to new perspective and more advanced insights. I have the quality to put myself in the position of others, seeing the bigger picture and be able to maintain perspective. It is therefore, as a reasonable person, I usually put myself as good listeners, helper and have a caring.

Responsive, Receptive and Reasonable are three R quality of a Brave person. A qualified Three R person will never sweat small stuff which deals with family life, social issue and working problem. Instead every issue is used as source of learning and further evaluation even though they are contrary to their logical thought.

Accomplishment

Am I a brave person now? Again I preserve no right to judge myself a brave person; somehow, I am developing myself. Through small stride, I will dare to strive for an accomplishment although it is achieved after lot of work or effort.

Valuable

Having an accomplishment is a dream of every Brave person, but an accomplishment is not the highest point or most successful part of my life. The achieved accomplishment starts from decision to work hard and learn hard and it will encourage me grow Valuable person.

How to become a valuable person? I cannot live by myself. I live together with other person in an organized way. As member of senior high school students, I will become good friend and good sister or brother. I am ready to ensure the new students feel at home and fell comfortable in learning from the first day they set foot at this school.

I will become first friend for new students and if there is a task that would be asked to the teacher but they are shame or difficult to communicate, then I can help. My juniors are welcomed to ask about anything, ranging from difficulties in learning or doing the coursework. I also can comfort and encourage the juniors who miss the family in the country.

I should be brave to work together with other members for a particular purpose. I must dare to make myself helpful or willing to do either simple or difficult and dangerous things that other person cannot be able to.

Becoming valuable is not only having a strong feeling of sympathy and sadness for the suffering or bad luck of others and a wish to help them. But I will share my food when you are hungry, I will always remind you to study when you prefer more playing, chatting and talking about things that are not very important.

Excellent

A Brave person has to dare to show himself not only valuable but also excellent. Excellent for brave person is not becoming someone in an important official position or you can be able to do big things.  According to Nelusigwe Mbingu as quoted by http://www.quora.com/Nelusigwe-Mbingu, said that an excellent person is you who deal with small things. Things like putting unwanted items back where you found them when doing grocery and putting candy wrappers in a garbage can instead of throwing them on the floor. Excellent people practice integrity at all times

For me, excellent person is one who has responsible to make herself good students. We should come to school on time, make our class clean and neat, do assignment on time and help and care for others. We know why we are sent here. We are here not only to learn to become clever academically but also we learn to become clever socially. You are excellent if you are more patient, kinder, more respectful, braver, more industrious, put more effort in studies and Smile often

Excellent starts from simple things, starting from knowing yourself, your needs and surrounding and then strives through great stride for bigger and even complicated things. Brian Tracy wrote in brainyquote.com that  that “You can become an even more excellent person by constantly setting higher and higher standards for yourself and then by doing everything possible to live up to those standards.”

The sun is Rising from the East

Corporate Culture sangat dijunjung tinggi oleh organisasi/perusahaan-perusahaan Japan dan hasilnya adalah seperti dunia ketahui saat ini bahwa the sun is rising from the east. Benar bahwa the sun never rises from the west namun dengan ilmu pengetahuan, teknologi dan individualism, Barat telah mendominasi dunia dalam berbagai aapek kehidupan termasuk ekonomi selama berabad-abad.

Apakah Barat masih mendominasi dunia? No more !!! Kiblat ekonomi dunia sekarang bukan lagi ke Barat tetapi ke Timur. Mengapa? Budaya Timur yakni kekeluargaan dan persaudaraan telah melahirkan karyawan yang peduli dan cinta dan mencurahkan seluruh hidup bagi pekerjaannya. Sehingga bila anda pernah membaca The Toyota Way, anda akan menemukan prinsip yang berbunyi Pekerjaanku adalah Ibadahku dan tempat kerjaku adalah kediaman dan kuburanku.

Apa artinya ini? Saat anda menjadi member sebuah organisasi termasuk organisasi pendidikan, Anda tidak perlu lagi mencari makan di luar sana, Anda tidak perlu memikirkan uang sewa pemondokan bulan berikut dan anda tidak perlu mencemaskan hari dimana anda tidak lagi mampu bekerja.

Mengapa? Hari ini anda mulai bekerja disini, anda memberi kesempatan kepada organisasi untuk menerima hasil dari pekerjaanmu dan mengelolanya bagi kebutuhanmu hari ini, pendidikan anak-anakmu dan untuk saat dimana anda tidak lagi mampu bekerja (hari tuamu).

Employees are the most highly effective Asset not Finance and Technology

Model Corporate Culture seperti dipaparkan diatas telah menuntun perusahaan-perusahaan modern, termasuk organisasi pendidikan untuk menempatkan employees mereka sebagai highly effective asset bukan finance and technology. Oleh karena itu, ketika pertama kali anda memasuki gerbang organisasi/perusahaan, anda akan disuguhkan dengan pelatihan basic mentality. Tujuannya untuk menolong anda membangun pemikiran positif tentang perusahaan dan mencintai apa yang akan anda kerjakan.

Hal kedua adalah anda akan dilatih tentang corporate culture. Tujuannya untuk menolong anda membangun budaya kerja yang megutamakan kualitas, budaya kerja dalam persaudaraan dan kepedulian terhadap sesama dan peduli terhadap apa yang anda kerjakan.

Selanjutnya anda akan dilatih untuk mengenal corporate philosophy. Tujuannya menolong anda memahami nilai yang menjadi landasan organisasi. Setiap organisasi tentu memiliki nilai tertentu yang ingin ditawarkan kepada khalayak atau konsumen. Melalui pelatihan corporate philosophy, setiap member (pemilik dan karyawan/guru) diajak untuk menjiwai dan menghidupi nilai atau value yang khas bagi organisasi sebagai landasan hidup seperti berikut:

1.     Valuable to God and humanity – bernilai bagi Tuhan dan kemanusian artinya bekerja sebagai ibadah bagi Tuhan dan pelayanan bagi kesejahteraan sesama.

2.     Authority from God – mendapatkan kekuatan dari Tuhan. Artinya kehebatanmu adalah anugerah bukan usahamu.

3.     Learning – senantiasa belajar dan belajar dalam hidup artinya belajar untuk meningkatkan capability and capacity for the highest performance

4.     Unity – membangun kekeluargaan, persaudaraan dan kebersamaan artinya selalu membangun kerjasama, kolaborasi dan mitra demi sebuah hasil maximum. Sebab hasil kerja seorang pintar yang individualist tidak sebanding dengan dua-tiga orang yang selalu bekerja dalam persaudaraan dan kebersamaan.

5.     Excellent – menjadi pribadi unggul dalam segala hal. Artinya anda akan bertumbuh menjadi pribadi terberkati untuk memberkati orang lain (Be Blessed to Bless).

Corporate Culture

Organisasi Pendidikan ibarat sebuah Stream (aliran air)

Corporate culture merupakan sebuah tatanan pelayanan yang menjadi rujukan bagi setiap organisasi untuk membentuk dan berbenah diri guna menemukan bentuk dan cara pelayanannya. Dengan demikian setiap organisasi yang memiliki budaya pelayanan yang baik akan menjadi model/rujukan dan pusat pelayanan bagi setiap orang yang membutuhkan.

Corporate culture atau budaya organisasi yang mengutamakan tata pelayanan prima dalam bidang pendidikan telah menjadi hal yang biasa bagi sekolah-sekolah yang dikelola oleh organisasi pendidikan Katolik. Oleh sebab itu sekolah-sekolah Katolik telah menjadi rujukan dan pusat belajar. Banyak tokoh dunia telah dilahirkan darinya.

Organisasi pendidikan Katolik dapat menjadi rujukan belajar dan pusat pembangunan sumber daya manusia Indonesia bukan karena kekuatan modal dan teknologi. Tetapi karena organisasi pendidikan Katolik selalu mendasarkan pelayanannya pada sabda Tuhan seperti beberapa ayat suci yang telah digambarkan diatas.

Salah satu roh ayat suci lain yang telah menjadi landasan pelayanan pendidikan ditemukan pada kitab Jeremiah. Jeremiah 17:8 memberi pemahaman bahwa organisasi pendidikan katolik ibarat sebuah Aliran Air karena itu pohon apapun yang tumbuh didekatnya akan mengirimkan akarnya ke dalam air. Pohon tersebut tidak akan pernah kuatir dan takut saat kemarau datang atau tidak turun hujan sebab daunnya tetap hijau dan terus menghasilkan buah.

Sama seperti pohon yang bertumbuh sepanjang Aliran Air, organisasi pendidikan katolik tidak hanya menjadi rujukan dan pusat belajar bagi siswa tetapi juga rujukan belajar dan karya bagi guru dan karyawan serta model bagi organisasi lain yang sejenis. Mereka yang belajar dan berkarir pada organisasi pendidikan katolik umumnya mengalami kemajuan luar biasa karena kebanyakan organisasi pendidikan katolik menempatkan pelayanan dan kesejahteraan sebagai priority melalui hal-hal berikut:

1.     Menempatkan diri sebagai pusat dan sumber belajar dan berkarya yang menyenangkan bagi setiap orang seperti sumber air bagi setiap pohon yang bertumbuh didekatnya. Caranya dengan terus meningkatkan kualitas organisasi pendidikan itu sendiri melalui sentuhan management professional pada:

a.      Tata kelola Keuangan yang baik (berbasis akuntansi modern dan transparan).

b.     Penguatan Human Resources melalui layanan bimbingan, pendidikan, pelatihan dan pemberian imbal jasa yang pantas (kesejahteraan).

c.      Tata kelola Asset yang baik melalui penguasaan, pemeliharaan dan penyediaan peralatan pendidikan yang modern dan updated.

2.     Membangun hubungan dengan siswa bukan sebagai objek didik tetapi mitra belajar yang butuh kenyamanan, pendampingan, dididikan dan pelayanan dalam belajar.

3.     Membangun hubungan dengan guru dan karyawan sebagai mitra kerja dan memfasilitasi mereka untuk memberdayakan diri melalui belajar dan karya guna meningkatkan karir dan meraih sebuah pencapaian bersama serta memenuhi kebutuhan hidup seperti pangan-sandang-papan dan pendidikan.

Kini Corporate culture dalam bidang pendidikan seperti yang diuraikan diatas telah menjadi model dan diadopsi oleh lembaga-lembaga non Katolik. Kita bisa melihatnya dari munculnya sekolah-sekolah swasta ternama berbasis agama (Islam, dll) dan atau sekolah swasta sekuler. Tanpa disadari, keberhasilan mereka tentu tidak terlepas dari prinsip dan nilai yang sama seperti yang tersirat dalam Jeremia 17:8 yang berbunyi whatever plant grows near the stream will send out its roots to the water. It is not afraid when the hot weather comes because its leaves stay green; it has no worries when there is no rain; it keeps on bearing fruit (Jeremiah 17:8).

Namun jika organisai pendidikan atau yayasan mementingkan profit bukan prosperity (kesejahteraan) maka kita akan menemukan hal-hal seperti berikut:

1.     Tidak ada tata kelola keuangan dan asset berbasis akuntasi modern dan trasnparan.

2.     Kurang tersedia fasilitas belajar seperti sarana dan prasarana belajar yang memadai.

3.     Kurang pelayanan, pendampingan dan didikan yang optimal dalam belajar sehingga para siswa bertumbuh menjadi pribadi yang bodoh dan nakal.

4.     Kurangnya layanan bagi kesejahteraan sehingga tenaga kerja (guru dan pegawai) tidak bekerja optimal karena harus memikirkan dan mencari penghasilan tambahan bagi keluarga, pendidikan anak dan hari tua.

5.     Hasilnya adalah organisai pendidikan atau yayasan tidak akan memiliki sekolah yang unggul dengan siswa-siswi berkualitas dan tenaga kerja (guru dan karyawan) yang sejahtera dan credible (cerdas, professional, peduli dan kasih).
