Sparkling Traditional Art Show
By Erica Akbar Pratiwi XII IPA 2014
Let show to the world that Learning is not a lifetime of trial only but also a lifetime of retention .... 16 September 2014 SMAK Fides Quaerens Intelectum at 92 Kefamenanu anniversary 2014.
92 years in not too old for a civilized town and nor is too young for a developing town.
There are some events like exhibition and art culture festival are being conducted to greed the anniversary of the beloved Kefamenanu for one month. The exhibition aims at showing the progress of the development that has been achieved. While the art culture festival aims to revive the traditional culture and folk song of Timor and the adjacent like Rote, Sawu, Sumba, Alor and Flores.
The art culture festival is considered good theater that used to introduce the artistic traditional culture to the world and given young generation to learn and appreciate the precious heritage of their ancestors. The festival of this kind should be determined as a permanent agenda and must be done continuously unless precious heritage of our ancestors will be submerged by the wave of Globalization.
At 16 Septer 2014, we, the students of Fides Quaerens Intelectum were given chance to show that we are not only students who only concern about science and technology, but also we pay more attention to the precious heritage of our ancestors.
We are so happy since we could make a sparkling show at the moment. We could perform creative and attractive traditional dances. We rechoreographied several traditional dances with modern and progressive touch. We also recomposed several folk songs in progressive melodious rhythms and they were put in an excellent performance.
The committee of the festival actually organized a contest of traditional art culture like dance, and traditional costume (fashion show) at the moment, yet we came just as a volunteer. We just wanted to entertain and to make our people forget their hectic routine for a while. In addition, we also would like to show that we are not learning science and technology in class only but also the knowledge of our traditional art.
Yes, we want to claim that we will never let the precious heritage of our ancestors will be submerged by the wave of Globalization.
Somehow, we were very amazed as I thought that we might get more appreciation, more applause and more smile than the contestants.
Hahaha, sorry I didn’t mean if we were the star at the moment but I just wanted give a favor for ourselves. We did not waste our time for training for nothing.
The most things that made us more happy is that although we are coming from different ethnic and town and did not know more about traditional art works of the region of Flobamora well, we could collaborate some dances from the area in good performance and recomposed several folk songs in up to dated melodious rhythms. Here with we would like to tell people that we could be able to put the diversity of Timor, Rote, Sawu, Sumba, Alor and Flores in one unity; it is Flobamora.
I am really proud of my friends because they are really talented students. They could translat the message of traditional dance in good performance. The performance is really worth seeing as the messages are really realistic on the stage. Moreover, the glittering of our traditional costume was very appealing.
Traditional art performance will always hold a special place in my heart
