Dear Mr. Smith,
My family and I recently took a vocation to San Antonio. We choose to stay at Buenos hotel located at St. Mary Street. We stayed there from Friday, May 14th up to Tuesday, May 18th. I have enclosed a copy of our receipt. We picked your hotel because of the location, and some positive reviews I had read online.
We had a great vocation and enjoyed visiting the Alamo, Sea World and other sites. We liked the restaurant at your hotel, and the location was perfect. However, we were very disappointed in the cleanliness of our room.
We found hair on the bathroom floor when we arrived. In addition, the floor had crumbs and needed to be vacuumed. On our second day, when we returned, we noticed that the beds had not been made, and cleaning staff had not visited. I did call the lobby desk and ask, they said they were understaffed and unable to do it on that day.
While I do understand that low staff can cause issues, we did pay for full service. Therefore, since our room was not cleaned, we would like a partial refund.
You may discuss this further with me at any time at (806) 443-2342. or, feel free to email me at vacationfamily@gmail.com

Lionel Messi was born Luis Andres Messi on June 24,1987,in Rosario, Argentina. As a young boy, he tagged along when his two older brothers played soccer with their friends, un-intimidated by the bigger boys. At the age of 8, he was recruited to join the youth system of Newell’s Old boys, a Rosario-based club. Recognizably smaller than most of the kids in his age group, Messi was eventually diagnosed by doctors as suffering from hormone deficiency that restricted his growth.
Messi's parents, Jorge and Ceclia, decided on a regimen of nightly growth-hormone injections for their son, though it soon proved impossible to pay several hundred dollars per month for the medication. So, at the age of 13, when Messi was offered the chance to train at soccer powerhouse FC Barcelona's youth academy, La Masia, and have his medical bills covered by the team, Messi's family picked up and moved across the Atlantic to make a new home in Spain.
Although he was often homesick in his new country, Messi moved quickly through the junior system ranks, and by the age of 16, he had made his first appearance for Barcelona. Messi put himself in the record books on May 1, 2005, as the youngest player to ever score a goal for the franchise. That same year, he led Argentina to the title in the under-20 World Cup, scoring on a pair of penalty kicks to propel the team over Nigeria.
Messi eventually grew to 5 feet and 7 inches, and with his short stature, speed and relentless attacking style, he drew comparisons to another famous Argentinean footballer: Diego Maradona. Messi steered Barcelona to a wealth of success, most notably in 2009, when the left-footer's team captured the Champions League, La Liga, and Spanish Super Cup titles. That same year, after two consecutive runner-up finishes, he took home his first FIFA "World Player of the Year" honor/Ballon d'Or award.

The stomach is the first stop in the process of food digestion. The inner walls of the stomach, also called stomach lining, are bathed in about a gallon of stomach acid and digestive enzymes.
Gastritis happens when the stomach lining is irritated, inflamed, or infected. Usually, a person with gastritis will feel some cramps and pain in the middle or left upper belly, just under the ribs. Other symptoms include nausea and vomiting, bloating, and belching. A wound in the stomach is called a gastric ulcer and it caused more pain than ordinary gastritis. Blood may appear in vomit or stool. This loss of blood may cause anemia, which, will make the person feel weak, tired and dizzy. When there is an infection, there is usually a fever.
It is used to be thought that the causes of gastritis are spicy food, alcohol and life style related factors like stress, along with some long term painkillers and anti inflammation drugs like aspirin and ibuprofen. But in the early eighties, a bacterium called Helicobacter-pylori was found to be responsible for most cases of gastritis and gastric ulcer. These bacteria are not killed by stomach acid because they live within the gel-like mucus membrane that protect the stomach from its own acid. They have also developed a clever mechanism to neutralize the acid that come in contact with, and released by a product of gases. These bacteria enter the body via contaminated food and water, but still can be eliminated with the right antibodies.

There is no one best way to deal with pests in agriculture. Pesticides are commonly used, but this may cause many problems. That’s why I feel that combining different management operations is the most effective way to control pests.
The chemicals in pesticides may build as residues in the environment. This reduces the quality of farm produce. As well, pests can gradually become resistant to pesticides. This means the newer and sometimes stronger ones have to be developed.
Some pesticides affect non target animals such as fish and bees. This affects the natural balance. Also aiming to completely wipe out agricultural pests may be very expensive. Sometimes pests damage costs less than the method of control.
Understanding the ecology of the area helps a lot in pest control. Natural enemies can be used to control a pest. Pesticides would be chosen that don’t affect the natural enemies. Therefore, I think integrated pest management is a safe and more effective option in agriculture.

Breaking and Entering is an unusual film. Will and Sandy are two architects working on a major urban renewal project in the King's Cross section in London. The area is unsafe and ready for such a project. Will and Sandy move their offices into a nearby vacant warehouse.
Will has to deal with constant burglaries at his new office. One night, he saw Miro trying to break into the building. He chased Miro to his run down apartment block and watched him return home to his mother, Amira, a Bosnian immigrant who makes a living tailoring clothes. Soon, Will 'meet' Amira and they begin an affair. And Amira learns that Will holds the key of her son's future. How far will this mother go to protect her son? Breaking and Entering is a very interesting film, it is almost entirely character driven. Tis is not a bad thing although in the film we are exposed to a story or action driven.

Making us remember why vampires are scary and exotically unknown is the aim of A Taste of Blood Wine by Freda Warrington, the first in a series that was originally published ten years ago.
The year is 1923 in Cambridge, England, the hometown of the Neville family. The family consists of scientist father, Dr Neville, who lives for his research and dotes upon his favorite daughter, Charlotte, who is the spitting image of his dead wife. His other two daughters, Fleur and Maddy, have always resented his favoritism and have instead grown up to be bubbly socialites like their aunt Elizabeth. Charlotte is as different from them as can be, as she is shy, reserved and more at home in her father’s lab than on the dance floor.
It is at one of Fleur’s parties that the Neville’s lives are set to change forever, with them being introduced to charming stranger, Karl von Wultendorf. His exotic beauty immediately ensnares the affection of Maddy, who hangs off his every word and is desperate to monopolize his attention for her own. This Austrian gentleman is seeking to learn the ways of science from Professor Neville, using Maddy to gain access to the kind professor and become his apprentice. With Charlotte having taken refuge in her room at the party when Karl set his sights on Maddy, she is distraught to learn that the safety of the lab will soon be jeopardized by a stranger’s presence.
Nevertheless, Karl’s intriguing personality soon wins over all the Nevilles, last of all Charlotte, but there is still something mysterious and dangerously intoxicating about him. Despite her best efforts, Charlotte is enamored and soon gives herself up to Karl, body and soul. He loves her, but freely admits that they cannot marry and has no desire to ruin her in the eyes of her family. He tries his best to keep his vampire nature a secret, choosing only to feed on strangers as he refuses to take the blood of humans he knows. However, it is only a matter of time before his true identity is revealed, throwing the Neville family into a state of confusion and shock from which they may never recover.

To study the multidimensional impact of globalization of every aspect of the world, we need to discuss its conceivable advantages and disadvantages. On positive sides, Globalization leads to higher employment since developed countries outsource jobs to under-developed countries. There is also increased investment in the financial projects of developing countries by established economies, which helps in accelerating their growth. Since the outset of globalization, free trade between nations has been established, this means that the countries can produce and import goods without paying heavy tariffs. This results in the availability of wide range of products at reasonable prices, everywhere in the world.
Culturally Countries which never had anything in common before are sharing and negotiating on a global scale now. On the other hand, the major disadvantage of the globalization in the economic sector is that it has made the rich richer and left the poor poorer. From the cultural point of view Since media plays a great role in globalizing all the information available, people suffer the evils of sensationalization. The media of the powerful nations has the power to circulate the information to every corner of the world, which means that they get to decide which information has to be shared and what should be the opinion of the people. It also ruins the personal identity of the cultures by westernizing everything. Third world countries are increasingly adopting the western ways as they feel inferior about their own culture. The new generation is increasingly becoming unaware of the nuances of their own culture. Globalization also leads to spreading of epidemics and communicable diseases as travelling has become accessible to all.       Adapted from http://lifestyle.iloveindia.com/lounge/pros-and-cons-of-globalization-3507.html
39.  The globalized state of the world affects our lifestyle by ……..
A. spreading political issues globally
B. westernizing individual’s identity
C. opening economic activities free
D. breaking up geographical gap

Mobile Phones : Good or Bad?
Everywhere you go nowadays, you see people using mobile phones. From school children to the people, you see them talking in the supermarket, on trains, in the street, everywhere! So what are the advantages of mobile phones?
First of all, they are very convenient because  you can phone from nearly anywhere. Another advantage is that they are really useful in emergency situations. For example, if you are alone in your car and it breaks down, you can get help quickly. In addition, you can also use your mobile to text your friends or connect to the Net.
However, there are disadvantages such as the cost. Mobile phone calls cost more than normal calls. Furthermore, it can be annoying if you are on a train or a bus and you have to listen to someone else’s boring conversation.

I want to tell you about honey. Well, honey is sweet, thick liquid made by bees from the nectar of flower. You know, nectar is a thin watery substance. Bees sip it from the blossoms and carry it to their hives. Each worker has a pouch in its body, called a honey stomach where the nectar is stored. In the pouch, the sugar and nectar are broken down by process called inversion two simple sugars, fructose and glucose. After bees deposit the nectar in the hives, they allow most of the water to evaporate fanning the honeycomb with their wings in an effort to speed up the process of evaporation. When most of the water has evaporated from the honeycomb, and the liquid thickens then the bee seals the comb with a secretion of liquid from its abdomen, which eventually hardens into beeswax. They also add enzymes that enhance the flavor.
I tell you that Honey is an excellent energy food because it contains simple sugars that can be absorbed quickly by the body. It differs chemically from cane sugar, which is also an energy food. Honey contains mineral salts and other materials needed by the body. It is the only form of sugar food that does not need to be refined.

Another demonstration was also held in front of the Semarang State Administrative Court (PTUN) when residents filed a lawsuit against the Batang regent for making a bylaw that contradicted other regulations.
The bylaw, they said, allowed the power plant to be built on land in Karanggeneng subdistrict, Kandeman, Batang and at sea in Ujungnegoro-Roban waters. The Ujungnegoro-Roban coastal area was declared a Local Sea Tourism Object under Government Regulation No. 26/2008. According to the Central Java provincial bylaw No 6/2010 on spatial planning, part of the project’s site at sea infringes upon a protected area.
Should the power plant be established, it would disturb the balance of the ecosystem, locals said. The residents are supported by environmental NGO Greenpeace and the Semarang Legal Aid Institute.            http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2012/09/03/thousands-oppose-steam-power-plant-establishment-batang.html-0

Taufik Hidayat (born 10 August 1981 in Bandung, West Java) is a retired Indonesian badminton player. He is a former World and Olympic champion in men's singles. He has also won the Indonesian Open six times (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006). When he was young, he joined the SGS Club, a badminton club in Bandung, where he trained under Iie Sumirat.
Hidayat won the men's singles competition in badminton at the 2004 Summer Olympics. In August 2005, he won the men's singles competition at the IBF World Championships. He also won the gold medal at the Asian Games twice, at Busan in 2002 and Doha in 2006.

Personal life. He married the daughter of Agum Gumelar, Ami Gumelar, on 4 February 2006. They had a daughter in early August 2008, named Natarina Alika Hidayat. She was born shortly before he had to leave for the World Championships

Player attributes. Hidayat's main qualities are his backhand (as he is perhaps most famous for his backhand smash, revered for its unusually high generation of power), forehand jump smash, drop shot (reverse slice in particular), smooth footwork and deceiving net play. Hidayat's forehand jump smash in the 2006 world championships is currently the fastest smash recorded in single's competition: he recorded a 305 km/h in a match against Ng Wei.

This overwhelming power on both his forehand and backhand, combined with his tenacity at the net and scope for deceptive shots, provide him with an extremely diverse weaponry on court, making him one of the most difficult players to face on the open circuit. Criticisms are in his lack of fitness, impatience with loud crowds and his propensity to return a net shot with a net shot, even though his opponent is dangerously close to the net. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taufik_Hidayat

Learning English through music and songs can be very enjoyable. You can mix pleasure with learning when you listen to a song and exploit the song as a means to your English progress. Some underlying reason can be drawn to support the idea why we use songs in language learning. So many kind of music in this world just like hardrock, pop, jazz, classic, rock, nasyid and the most popular song in our country is dangdut. Cause dangdut is the music of my country as a characteristic of our country which contrasted with other countries.
Beside that , we also more remembering about something that happen on us. It's just like story that happen between our life. Like as love story, friendship story and something else that happen in our life. And by know the song that can be a soundtrack in our life with English song, we can learning English through music and song. With music we can memorize the sentence or word faster than reading. and with different musical language, we can enrich our vocabulary of a language that we usually know just by reading. Actually, a person's ability to learn a thing can be differentiated into many things such as hearing, vision, practice or other things that might happen.
Firstly, “the song stuck in my head” Phenomenon (the echoing in our minds of the last song we heard after leaving a restaurant, shopping malls, etc) can be both enjoyable and sometimes unnerving. This phenomenon also seems to reinforce the idea that songs work on our short-and-long term memory. And its like song ''Black box'' from Stan Walker. It's story about record of emotion in our mind that happen in our life. It can be a knowledge about ourselves and rich our knowledge about vocabulary.
Secondly, songs in general also use simple conversational language, with a lot of repetition, which is just what many learners look for sample text. The fact that they are effective makes them many times more motivating than other text. Although usually simple, some songs can be quite complex syntactically, lexically and poetically, and can be analyzed in the same way as any other literary sample. So we can't be dizzy to know the other language.
Furthermore, song can be appropriated by listener for their own purpose. Most pop songs and probably many other types don’t have precise people, place or time reference. And maybe if it's be a soundtrack for our life, we can know more about that song and more riching our vocabulary.
In addition, songs are relaxing. They provide variety and fun, and encourage harmony within oneself and within one group. Little wonder they are important tools in sustaining culture, religion, patriotism and yeas, even revolution. beside it rich the knowledge, it also can be rich our knowledge too. So if there's a will there's a way. If we want to know more about the language we can know by the other way like song and music.
Last but not least, there are many learning activities we can do with songs such as studying grammar, practicing selective listening comprehension, translating songs, learning vocabulary, spelling and culture. Many people know about the grammar. Just grammar. But don't know how to use in the life. But by the song, we can know the English not only by grammar but the using in the life.
From the elaboration above, it can be concluded that learning through music and songs, learning English can be enjoyable and fun. There are many way to know about English. as far as we try to know about that so that way too the way to know about that. We can learn the English from the funniest thing like as song and music.

Music and lyrics Movie Review
Alex Fletcher (Hugh Grant) is a washed-up ’80s pop star who’s been reduced to working the nostalgia circuit at county fairs and amusement parks. He’s charismatic and talented, but he hasn’t done anything of significance in many years. But, one day he gets a chance at having a comeback when the reigning diva, Cora Corman (who’s bigger than Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera put together), invites him to write and record a duet with her. But here’s the problem – Alex hasn’t written a song in years, not to mention the fact that writing a hit song takes months… but Cora Corman has only given him a matter of days to finish the song! Alex’s new plant lady, Sophie Fisher (Drew Barrymore), comes over to water the plants while he’s talking with his manager, Chris Riley (Brad Garrett), and as he’s struggling to come up with lyrics for Cora’s new song, Sophie just blurts out some decent lyrics on the spot. Alex suddenly has the idea that he needs Sophie to come help him write the song, but she hesitates at first because she’s never done anything like that before… she just a humble, quirky and often incredibly obnoxious, no-name, plant lady. After much persistence, Alex convinces Sophie to believe in herself and help him because his comeback depends on this one song… and as they compose the song, they begin to fall for each other, despite all of Sophie’s quirks.

The rank of homeschooling families were once compromised primarily of parents citing religious reason for their choice. But now, demographics of those opting out of formalized education has become widely diverse. Why homeschooled? “I realize early that my daughter was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Rather than take the system on, I decided to homeschool my daughter so she could move around freely without feeling shame and learn at her own pace.” Said a mother. She is not in her frustration with how the educational system handles a typical learning style or learning disabilities. Learning styles can be a significant factor in a parent’s decision to homeschool their child, but is not the only one. Kids, particularly those growing up in urban areas, may find the regular school schedule chafing up against their burgeoning interests in theater, dance or art. Some parents who opt to homeschool their children do so in an attempt to alleviate scheduling issues between traditional class time and time spent pursuing their children’s specialized talents. Advocates of homeschooling cite this as an admirable choice, but others argue that it is not in the best interests of the child. eaching styles vary widely among parents who homeschool their kids. Some follow standard school curriculum, utilizing text books and following a schedule that includes math and English, while others opt to unschool, meaning that no curriculum whatsoever is utilized and each day is different from the next. Unschooling may be earmarked by a variety of trips and learning experiences and can be highly creative and child-led. But for some, these freewheeling unschooling days may instead be parent-led, pushing children to concentrate their efforts on interests of note for the adult rather than the child, or on religious ideology.
Arguably, an asset of attending regular school is the opportunity it affords kids to be exposed to a wide variety of subjects, not just those currently of interest, as well as a diverse group of people. While not all schools are created equal, the ability they give children to socialize with others is a big plus.            http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2013/04/17/just-the-facts-the-pros-cons-of-homeschooling/
69.  Why is homeschooling a choice to some?
A. School life creates inequality among students
B. Teacher’s teaching styles tend to be greatly different
C. Children’s personal talent can be adequately developed
D. Students with a particular handicap take the best benefit of it
E. Formal school’s schedule sacrifices students’ academic potential
This text is for question 42
With advances in transportation and information technology, even the most remote places on Earth are within reach of the traveler. In fact, tourism is now the world's largest industry, with nature tourism the fastest growing segment. People want to experience the nature and the world, but should try to do so in a way that doesn't impact the natural environment. In response to this increasing appreciation of nature experiences, a new travel ethic has arisen called ecotourism. The Nature Conservancy adopts the definition articulated by the World Conservation Union (IUCN):
"Environmentally responsible travel to natural areas, in order to enjoy and appreciate nature (and accompanying cultural features, both past and present) that promote conservation, have a low visitor impact and provide for beneficially active socio-economic involvement of local peoples."
Most tourism in natural areas today is not ecotourism and is not, therefore, sustainable. Ecotourism is distinguished by its emphasis on conservation, education, traveler responsibility and active community participation. Specifically, ecotourism possesses the following characteristics:
  • Conscientious, low-impact visitor behavior
  • Sensitivity towards, and appreciation of, local cultures and biodiversity
  • Support for local conservation efforts
  • Sustainable benefits to local communities
  • Local participation in decision-making
  • Educational components for both the traveler and local communities
Increased tourism to sensitive natural areas without appropriate planning and management can threaten the integrity of ecosystems and local cultures. The increase of visitors to ecologically sensitive areas can lead to significant environmental degradation. Likewise, local communities and indigenous cultures can be harmed in numerous ways by an influx of foreign visitors and wealth. Additionally, fluctuations in climate, currency exchange rates, and political and social conditions can make over-dependence upon tourism a risky business.
However, this same growth creates significant opportunities for both conservation and local communities. Ecotourism can provide much-needed revenues for the protection of national parks and other natural areas -- revenues that might not be available from other sources.
Additionally, ecotourism can provide a viable economic development alternative for local communities with few other income-generating options. Moreover, ecotourism can increase the level of education and activism among travelers, making them more enthusiastic and effective agents of conservation.            http://www.nature.org/greenliving/what-is-ecotourism.xml

A. people tend to interpret ecotourism wrongly
B. ecotourism defines four essential principles to happen

D. tourists should not the nature at the cost of nature

Dear Mr. Smith,
My husband and I recently stayed at Plaza Hotel on our way back from our honeymoon. We were traveling from Niagara Falls. In the past, I have had positive experiences when staying at (hotel name chain), however, this time we had an unpleasant experience.
When we got to our room, we noticed that the air conditioner was not properly cooling the room. We called the front desk staff. She was very impolite and said, "We'll get to it when we can." We never had anyone check it out, and were not offered a new room. We were very hot, but managed to sleep okay. Also, we were very disappointed in the breakfast the next morning. The bacon was very greasy and cold. There was no sugar for the coffee.
I am writing you this letter, Mr. Cantu, to let you know of the poor service at your hotel. I am giving you a chance to provide a refund. I would like to hear your side of the story, and allow a chance for you to comment, before posting a review online.
I have enclosed a copy of our receipt. You may call me at (342)456-4345, or email me at newlywed@yahoo.com. Thank-you.

Province sends out choppers to fight forest fires
The Riau Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) deployed two helicopters to conduct water bombing operations in Pelalawan regency, where the majority of hotspots have been detected, to combat the resurgence of forest and peat land fires.
Riau BPBD head Said Saqlul Amri said his agency was currently focusing on tackling the fires in Pelalawan regency since the fires had potentially caused heavy smog in the Riau capital of Pekanbaru. The choppers are Sikorsky, which can carry loads of up to 3.5 tons, and Bolco, which is able to carry 500 liters of water.
“We will intensify the water bombing by using the Sikorsky because it can conduct 120 water bombing sorties, while the Bolco can only carry out 20. We will also use the Bolco to monitor and record hotspots,” Said said.
“Besides water bombing, we will continue to cloud seed. This time, there are two Cassa planes, which belong to the Army and the BPPT [Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology, chaired by State Minister of Research and Technology], to plant two tons of salt in the clouds,” he added.
In Pekanbaru, the air quality index hit 170 on the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) on Wednesday. Normally the PSI range is between zero and 50.
Zainal Arifin from the Riau Health Agency said he had distributed 170,000 masks across the province to protect residents from the potentially serious health hazards of breathing in the toxic haze.

Born in Sheffield on 28 January 1986, she is one of two daughters of Vinnie Ennis and Alison Powell,[6] and has a younger sister named Carmel.[6] Her father, originally from Jamaica,[7] is a self-employed painter and decorator;[6] her mother, a social worker, was born in Derbyshire.[8] Neither of her parents were particularly athletic, but her father did some sprinting at school, whilst her mother favoured the high jump.[7] They introduced her to athletics by taking her to a 'Start:Track' event at Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium during the 1996 school summer holidays.[9] In later years she joked that her parents took her to the event, because "I think my mum and dad wanted me out of the house!"[10] She won her first athletics prize there – a pair of trainers.
More importantly, it was there that she met the man who was to become her coach, Toni Minichiello.[11] She took to the sport immediately and joined the City of Sheffield Athletic Club the following year, aged eleven.[12] In November 2000, aged fourteen, she won the Sheffield Federation for School Sports Whitham Award for the best performance by a Sheffield athlete at the National Schools Championships, where she won the high jump competition.[13]
Growing up in the Highfield area of Sheffield,[14] Ennis attended Sharrow Primary School and King Ecgbert School in Dore, where she did her GCSEs and stayed on in the sixth form to gain three A-Levels,[6] before going on to study psychology at the University of Sheffield and graduating in 2007 with a 2:2.[6]

"Radio-phone" just didn't stick
A big secret that the cell phone companies have been keeping from the world is that a cell phone is nothing more than a radio. It is a complex radio, but still a radio. In order to really understand the way a cell phone works, we must discuss some of the cell phones history for just a moment.
The Cell Approach! The technology behind cells have changed dramatically over the years, just as cell phones have, but now most standard cells are about 10 square miles large. They are usually in the shape of a hexagon. Nowadays, every individual cell has its own base station, rather than only one for an entire city.  And now cell phones are made to be low-power transmitters (either 0.3 watts or 6 watts), which is much lower wattage than in past decades. This means that the same frequency can be used in the same city, at the same time, but in different cells.
How a cell phone carrier controls the frequency like an ice cube tray. The cell phone transmitting towers don't spill their transmissions that far out of their own cells. They may spill slightly into the most adjacent cells, but not into cells more than one cell away. Usually each separate carrier, have their own control office in each major urban area called the Mobile Telephone Switching Office (MTSO). This is where they control their respective towers. This office also connects all of the cell-phone calls to the land-line phones.
But what happens when one moves from cell to cell? Relax, this was all taken into consideration. Each modern cell phone (meaning it was created in the last 20 years or so) has special codes programmed into them. The most important code is the system identification code or the (SID). It's a five digit code that the FCC gives to each different cell phone carrier. When a cell phone is turned on, whether it's making a call or not, it's picking up the SID that is being transmitted from the closest cell phone tower. The phone's personal carrier is also transmitting its SID to the phone on specific channels that the phone programmed to listen for. But if it can't pick any of them up, the dreaded "NO SERVICE" message appears on the display. However, when the carrier can pick up the phone, you're in luck. It's connected!

B. It gives code to each different cell phone carrier
C. It picks up the SID transmitted from the closest cell phone tower
D. It transmits its SID to the phone on specific channels
E. It finds the phone and connects to it by finding a common frequency
84.  From the text, we can conclude that …..
A. technology in cell phone makes the users reluctant to work
B. before cell technology was invented, radio phones were simpler to use
C. how cell phone works can’t be explained by scientists
D. the development of cell phone technology is growing better

Or should I say relearn as we see that our ancestors did the right things with regard to looking after the planet and its resources. The advancement in technology that has made life easier and definitely more luxurious has made global warming to increase at an alarming rate. It is time to find a balance between luxury and sustainable living.
Recycling has to start at home with you. If each individual did their part this will be an easy task. First, glass, plastic, paper and bio degradable waste ha to be separated when disposing. This will make it easier for recycling. Small things like using reusable grocery bags which are given by many of the retailers today will reduce the waste of paper or the addition of plastic to our waste. Recycling has to come naturally and this is what our generation can give to the next upcoming generation-the ability to think green in all choices that are made on a daily basis.
Other areas of recycling include water which is fast becoming an elusive commodity in many areas on earth. Our ancestors used water in agriculture before allowing it to flow to the sea and we see many cultures that have prospered around large bodies of water. If we can reuse water this will be a greener place to live. Another way that we can recycle is by donating goods that we no longer need or have outgrown to others so that they may make use of them instead of purchasing new items. This would greatly reduce the impact that we have on earth's resources and aid sustainable living. It will also ensure that we have less garbage in our dumps thus reducing global warming and toxic emissions that pollute the atmosphere. Recycling is definitely something that each and everyone of us should be aware of and can practice easily on a daily basis.

Beautiful Mind is a biographical movie about John Forbes Nash junior, mathematical genius with hard fate. At the beginning of his career he has made enormous contribution in the field of Game Theory, which was a revolution in this mathematical area and almost brought international fame to the author. The movie was filmed in 2001 by Ron Howard and today it is called modern classics: a true drama, making you think and evoking emotions.
Such movies, telling us about the life of a famous person, are always difficult to assess, because any such creations somehow pretend to be biographical ones. But in fact they are just a glance of one particular producer on the life of another individual. Of course, much depends on the actor who will perform the role of the protagonist and after watching Beautiful Mind I will agree with this once again.
For a simple movie viewer, the cast will be interesting in the first place. Unbeaten great actor Russell Crowe and brilliant actress Jennifer Connelly meet on one film set. With such perfect cast film simply could not come out as a bad one. The actors play on the emotions of the audience throughout the film and every time you sympathize them more and more. They managed to convey many differing emotions – frustration, pain and suffering, the state on the verge of madness, love, indifference, desperate longing and bitterness. This is evident in the gestures, look and the walk.

“Oliver Twist” review
James Topham
Oliver Twist is a well-known story, but the book is not as widely read as one would imagine. The novel has all the vivid storytelling and unimpeachable literary skill that Dickens brings to all his novels, but there's also a raw, gritty quality.
Oliver Twist was enormously influential in bringing to light the atrocious treatment of paupers and orphans in Dickens's time. The novel is not only a brilliant work of art but also a tremendously important document in social history.
Oliver Twist: Overview
Oliver is born in a workhouse in the first half of the nineteenth century. His mother dies during his birth, and he is sent to an orphanage (where he is poorly treated). Along with the other orphans, Oliver is regularly beaten and poorly fed. In a famous episode, he walks up to the the stern authoritarian, Mr. Bumble, and asks for more. For this impertinence, he is put out of the workhouse. He then runs away from the family who take him in. He wants to find his fortune in London. Instead, he falls in with a boy called Jack Dawkins, who is part of a child gang of thieves--run by Fagin.
Oliver is brought into the gang and trained as a pickpocket. When he goes out on his first job, he runs away and is nearly sent to prison. However, the kindness of the person who was robbed, saves him from the terrors of the city gaol, and instead he is taken into the philanthropic gentleman's home. However, as soon as he thinks he is settled, Bill Sikes and Nancy (two members of the gang) takes him back. Oliver is once more sent out on a job--this time assisting Sikes on a burglary.
The job goes wrong and Oliver is shot and left behind. Once more he is taken in (this time by the Maylies, the family he was sent to rob), and he spends a wonderful time with them. However, once more Fagin's gang comes after him. Nancy, who is worried about Oliver, tells the Maylies what is happening. When the gang find out about Nancy's treachery, they murder her.
Meanwhile, the Maylies reunite Oliver with the gentleman who helped him out earlier and who (in true Victorian-novel style) turns out to be Oliver's uncle. Fagin has been arrested and hanged for his crimes; and Oliver settles down to a pampered life (re-united--happily--with his family). http://classiclit.about.com/od/olivertwistcdickens/fr/aa_olivertwist.htm

            Pros and Cons of Homeschooling

There are many pros and cons of homeschooling that factor into the decision “should I home school my child?”  From homeschooling statistics, it's clear that homeschooling is becoming a more accepted method of education – and perhaps even trendy, but is it right for your child?  Making the decision to instruct your child from home is hardly an easy decision. There are many pros and cons of homeschooling to be considered, any of which could upset the balance of your child's educational foundation. Here are a few of the most common pros and cons of homeschooling to help you decide if it's right for your child:
Teachers are spreading themselves too thinly to provide personalized attention to children in their classes, which means your child may not receive the full benefit of their support. Your child's educational struggles are increasingly likely to go unaddressed, resulting in poor test scores and falling behind. When homeschooled, your kids will have your undivided attention. Any learning issues or bad behaviors can be addressed and corrected quickly, helping your child reach his or her full potential.
With homeschooling, your children can learn at their own speed. Combined with the personal attention offered by a homeschooling environment, many children who learn from home wind up ahead of the traditional educational schedule as homeschooling statistics confirm.  This environment also helps parents incorporate subjects that might not be included in the local school's curriculum, such as foreign language.

Assured safety

Perhaps one of the best arguments in favor of homeschooling is the guarantee of your child's safety. Bullying, fights and other school violence become a non-issue when your child is educated from home. Homeschooling can also help you avoid all the peripheral issues that can result from school violence, including disciplinary actions, trips to the school and therapy sessions in some cases.

Lack of social development

Of the many pros and cons of homeschooling, this is among the most commonly listed “cons.”  Keeping your child out of a traditional school environment greatly inhibits their access to other children. Even if your child gets plenty of playtime and other opportunities to meet and interact with people his own age, this is bound to add up to far less contact than the 30+ hours in a normal school week and can lead to home school socialization issues.

Reduced competition

Competition often breeds achievement, and homeschooled children are generally not provided with competitive opportunities. Traditional schooling fixtures such as team sports, spelling bees, and school play tryouts all encourage your child to do their very best. These things give children something to strive for, and to uncover natural aptitudes that might go untapped in homeschooled environments.
95.  Why are homeschooled children considered lacking a sense of competitiveness?
A. Their learning needs are fully provided by parents
B. Homeschooled children tend not to do their best
C. They are not used to seeing others as their rivals
D. Their learning styles at home are less challenging
E. Personal learning avoids them from socializing

The popularity of social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Classmates.com more than quadrupled from 2005 to 2009. Many users say the sites are good for our society, but others contend that the dangers of social media outweigh the benefits.
Social networking sites allow people to create new relationships and reconnect with friends and family. Increased communication, even online, strengthens relationships. Social networking sites allow for creative expression in a new medium. They provide free messaging, blogging, photo storage, games, event invitations, and many other services to anyone with access to a computer and the Internet. Social networking sites bring people with common interest together, offer exposure to new ideas from around the world, and lower inhibitions to overcome social anxiety. People who have a difficulty communicating in person are more comfortable interacting via the Internet.
Meanwhile the opponents argue that social networking sites expose children to predators, increase vulnerability to computer viruses, lower worker productivity, and promote narcissism and short attention spans. Social networking sites entice people to spend more time online and less time interacting face-to-face. The sites offer many time wasting activities that supplant more productive activities. Teens spend an average of nine hours per week on social networking sites. Teens growing up with these sites may not be aware that the information they post is public and that photos and text can be retrieved even after deletion. Consequences from over-sharing personal information include vulnerability to sexual or financial predators and lost job opportunities from employers finding embarrassing photos or comments.
Social networking sites have no way to verify that people are who they claim to be, leaving people vulnerable to solicitations from online predators who are able to mask their true identities. In Feb. 2009, MySpace identified 90,000 registered sex offenders with profiles on the site, while Facebook declined to reveal how many were present on its site. Even if the sites agree to remove sex offenders, they cannot identify all of them or stop them from creating new accounts.
As social networking sites become more integrated in our modern culture, some people think that the benefits outweigh any downsides, while others believe the dangers are more pressing than any upsides.
96.  The writer sees the risk of social media in ….
A. reducing the amount of time for face-to-face communication
B. harming teens motivation to study seriously
C. enticing young people to communicate with sexual predators
D. encouraging teenagers to write embarrassing comments
E. wasting students’ time on harmful on-line activities
97.  “….the opponents argue that social networking site entice people to… (paragraph 3). The underlined word is closest in meaning to…..
A. persuade
B. make
C. invite
D. offer
E. intimidate

Dear Editor,
We are writing to protest about ads on TV. There are too many ads, especially during our favorite programs. We think they should be stopped for a number reason.
First, ads are nuisance. They go for long time and there are too many of them. Sometimes there seems to be more ads than programs.
Second, ads are bad influence on people. They try to encourage people to buy unhealthy products like beer, soft drink, candy and chips. And they make people buy things they do not really need and cannot afford
Finally, the people who make ads too much to say in the programs people watch. Thant is because they want to put  all their ads on popular programs that a lot of people watch. Some programs which are not so popular get stopped because they do not attract enough ads, even though those programs may be someone's favorites.
For those reasons, we think TV station should stop showing ads. They interrupt programs. They give bad influence to people and they arbitrarily stop people's favorite shows. We are sick of ads, and now we mostly watch other channels.

Michael Jeffrey Jordan (born February 17, 1963), also known by his initials, MJ, is an American former professional basketball player, entrepreneur, and majority owner and chairman of the Charlotte Bobcats. His biography on the National Basketball Association (NBA) website states, "By acclamation, Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time." Jordan was one of the most effectively marketed athletes of his generation and was considered instrumental in popularizing the NBA around the world in the 1980s and 1990s.
After a three-season career at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of the Tar Heels' national championship team in 1982, Jordan joined the NBA's Chicago Bulls in 1984. Westernization: A Threat to Our Culture
Dramatic cultural change has happened before our eyes, the main cause seems to uncontrolled westernization.

Low understanding toward negative effects of westernization has made people adopt the Western culture and values unintentionally. when the country has become poorer and at the same time people see the fact that Western people seem to be wealthier, they start to think that Western people are better than those in other countries. people started to admire the west culture without realizing that not all from the west is good, especially the culture in the social and individual life. we may adopt the West professionalism and their hard work, but we shouldn't adopt the ways of clothing, free life, individualism, etc
Young generation has likely lost national identity. the youngsters don't have the pride to uphold their nation's values as eastern people. On the other hand, they have lost the people of this country who can become good model to follow. they no longer trust older generation since they have found corruptions done everywhere.
The uncontrolled flow of information makes the westernization process run very smoothly. Internet, VCDs, cell phones, and other media transform effectively the Indonesian culture to western culture. We have seen and heard that many senior high students have accessed pornographic pictures by means of their cell phones. This is really a threat to the moral of this country,

When we have realized the danger of westernization in culture and idea, we should take some real actions. The government should control the TV programs, Internet access, and systematically campaign to strengthen the country's characters. The citizens should certainly help the government to perform the improvement.

"A.C.O.D.", an acronym that stands for Adult Children of Divorce, could easily be played for heavy drama. Carter (Adam Scott) is in many ways a model A.C.O.D., heroically tolerant of his warring parents Hugh (Richard Jenkins) and Melissa (Catherine O'Hara), wry and distanced but still open enough to try to love other people.
That openness is a hard-won victory. His parents are jerks, and the tricky thing about them is that they're charismatic jerks, selfish and self-indulgent Baby Boomers whose mantra is always "the heart wants what it wants." They are monsters, basically, and they are believable monsters, and first-time director Stu Zicherman never makes them more outlandish than they should be to get broader or bigger laughs. When Melissa tells her younger son Trey (Clark Duke), "Darling, you were a mistake," it takes a second or two to process the fact that she is actually telling him this in an attempt to be reassuring. A moment like this is not either funny or sad: it's shocking, and it gets to the root of the mystery of some human behavior.
The film starts off rather badly with a flashback to Carter's ninth birthday party and some "Arrested Development"-aping narration, but it soon abandons this conceit and finds a specific tone of its own. "A.C.O.D." is a sharp, dark-ish character comedy, settling for a dry tolerance in its point of view that is very appealing and even admirable. http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/acod-2013

Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl
By Bapalapa2, Cranberry Township, VA
Anne Frank: The Diary of a Young Girl is a very inspirational and moving journal that should be read by everyone, especially students. Not only will many relate to it, but it is valuable for both the mind and the heart. Touching and poignant, the story reveals the history of World War II, unforgettable people, and lessons that will stay in your heart forever.
While reading Anne Frank, I learned lots about what really happened during World War II. It was an unimaginable horror: millions of innocent people dying at the hands of biased obsession. Reading this really took me back to 1944 and put me right there in the Secret Annex with its residents, holding my breath as Nazi troops passed by on the streets below.
The wisdom I gained will remain with me forever. Now I see the Holocaust as something more than a tragedy we learn about in school: it seems more real, more horrific, and somehow bigger and worse than I had imagined.
Each character clearly has its own personality, ranging from extremely argumentative to unbelievably gregarious, and each adds a different flavor to the journey. I truly felt connected to these eight hiding away, as if I had known them forever. Sometimes, it was as if Anne and I were best friends, sitting there and talking. Other times I could feel Mrs. Van Daan's stinging comments.
Knowing these people were real, that they lived and died at the hands of the Nazis, brought an interesting perspective to the story. These weren't made-up characters, they once walked this earth. In the end, I felt attached to them and their stories, and I know other students will, too.
No one can read The Diary of Anne Frank and not take away a very valuable lesson. Focusing on the problems of growing up, dealing with tough times, and the never-ending power of hope, these concepts really strengthened my morals and virtues. Throughout the book, young people will be able to relate to Anne's quarrels with her sister and parents, and everyone understands how hard it is to face your biggest fears. Anne will teach us all something to save forever: I know she taught me.
After reading this treasured book, I felt humbled, more knowledgeable and genuinely touched. Anne Frank's diary will help everyone through the toughest and most confusing times with her famous words, “Despite everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.” http://www.teenink.com/reviews/book_reviews/article/1401/Anne-Frank-The-Diary-of-a-Young-Girl/

Globalization has had such a widespread impact. Therefore, it is but natural that people have perceived it in many different ways. The proponents of globalization believe that one of the most positive effects of globalization is its impact on trade. With an increase in free trade, the prosperity and wealth of nations as well as their independence on one another has increased. On a cultural front, globalization has lead to what is referred to as homogenization. As a result, traditional diversity is reduced, and new multicultural identity is born. Further, there has been a standardization of not only cultural identity but also cultural likes and dislikes, with entertainment and pop culture being freely accessible to anyone, anywhere. While, globalization has helped the economics of developing countries by increasing competitions and production in worldwide markets, it has, unfortunately, had a negative effect not only on the environment but also on prices and demand, especially for oil. Economically, critics argue that while globalization does encourage free trade, it negatively affects national markets. Also, the exploitation of cheaper foreign labor has been widely criticized.
120.    How does the globalized world contribute to nation’s welfare?
A. More culture entertainment creates a new business
B. Nations compete in producing quality goods and service
C. Globalization reduces unemployment in developing countries
D. International trading breaks up economic barriers of countries
E. Economic needs of countries become dependent on one another

Water pollution occurs when a body of water is adversely affected due to the addition of large amounts of materials to the water. The sources of water pollution are categorized as being a point source or a non-source point of pollution. Point sources of pollution occur when the polluting substance is emitted directly into the waterway. A pipe spewing toxic chemicals directly into a river is an example. A non-point source occurs when there is runoff of pollutants into a waterway, for instance when fertilizer from a field is carried into a stream by surface runoff. Water pollution also comes into several types. First, Toxic Substance -- A toxic substance is a chemical pollutant that is not a naturally occurring substance in aquatic ecosystems. The greatest contributors to toxic pollution are herbicides, pesticides and industrial compounds.  The next kind is Organic Substance -- Organic pollution occurs when an excess of organic matter, such as manure or sewage, enters the water. When organic matter increases in a pond, the number of decomposers will increase. These decomposers grow rapidly and use a great deal of oxygen during their growth. This leads to a depletion of oxygen as the decomposition process occurs. A lack of oxygen can kill aquatic organisms. As the aquatic organisms die, they are broken down by decomposers which leads to further depletion of the oxygen levels.
A type of organic pollution can occur when inorganic pollutants such as nitrogen and phosphates accumulate in aquatic ecosystems. High levels of these nutrients cause an overgrowth of plants and algae. As the plants and algae die, they become organic material in the water. The enormous decay of this plant matter, in turn, lowers the oxygen level. The process of rapid plant growth followed by increased activity by decomposers and a depletion of the oxygen level is called eutrophication.
There is also so-called Thermal Pollution -- Thermal pollution can occur when water is used as a coolant near a power or industrial plant and then is returned to the aquatic environment at a higher temperature than it was originally. Thermal pollution can lead to a decrease in the dissolved oxygen level in the water while also increasing the biological demand of aquatic organisms for oxygen.  Finally, it is Ecological Pollution -- Ecological pollution takes place when chemical pollution, organic pollution or thermal pollution are caused by nature rather than by human activity. An example of ecological pollution would be an increased rate of siltation of a waterway after a landslide which would increase the amount of sediments in runoff water. Another example would be when a large animal, such as a deer, drowns in a flood and a large amount of organic material is added to the water as a result. Major geological events such as a volcano eruption might also be sources of ecological pollution.  http://www.mbgnet.net/fresh/pollute.htm

WHAT IS APICULTURE?
Apiculture, also called beekeeping, is the cultivation of bees on a commercial scale for the production for honey. Royal jelly and bee pollen are the other products of it. There are many species of bee. Some of them are Apis cerana, Apis dorsata, Apis florea, and Apis mellifera. Among those species, Apis mellifera is the most productive and the easiest to be cultivated.
A bee colony consist of a queen, a lot of worker bees and some drones, stingless male bees in  a colony of social bees (especially honeybees) whose sole function is to mate with the queen. Each group has its specific duty. The queen, for example, only lays eggs, the drones have duty to copulate the queen, and the workers have to take care of the queen, drones, and larvae. They are also responsible for seeking flowers and nectar.
To obtain good production, the farmers have to be able to provide the most productive flowers near the cultivation or they have to travel through forest, bushes, and plantations to find them. The best flowers can produce ample material for bee products. Many people like to consume honey because it is believed to give benefit for health. Medical research had found out that the bee stomach produces some liquid that it is very beneficial for human health.

Stem cell research has become a widespread controversy within the general public, the political spectrum, and the scientific and religious communities. One controversy dealing with possibilities involved in cloning. Like stem cell research, cloning has its own variety of uses and benefits that may or may not outweigh the ethical or moral consequences involved in the process. Creating a clone is achieved by taking an organism’s cell nucleus and implanting it into an egg cell, and then, as it begins to develop into an embryo, transplanting it into a surrogate mother. This process allows for the creation of an exact copy of the organism donating its cell nucleus. The benefits of cloning are limitless, ranging from being able to create human organs in order to replace faulty ones to the creation of stem cells that could be used to cure terminal illnesses, cancer, and several other physical anomalies.
However, cloning, along with genetic engineering, also brings in the frightening possibility of the creation of “super-humans” with unnatural physical and mental capabilities and idealized “perfect children” for prospective parents. Morality and ethics become a prime concern in that, in order to utilize the cloned organs and stem cells, the actual clone would have to be destroyed, which, to some people, constitute as murder. In addition, the possible creation of idealized people and super-humans is also considered by many to be unnatural and impersonal, as well as a way of “tampering with mother nature.” http://student.biology.arizona.edu/honors2007/group01/controversy.html
126.    Why are many people against the practice of cloning?
A. It will create super human beings
B. It involves amoral and unethical practice
C. It has lot of harmful consequences to our health
D. It will destroy human civilization
E. The created children will tamper with their parents
127.    Creating a clone is achieved by taking an organism’s cell nucleus and implanting it into an egg cell,…” (Paragraph 2). The synonym of the underlined word is …
A. received
B. obtained
C. separated
D. created

Meteor Shower
A meteor shower is a celestial event in which a number of meteors are observed to radiate, or originate, from one point in the night sky. These meteors are caused by streams of cosmic debris called meteoroids entering Earth's atmosphere at extremely high speeds on parallel trajectories. Most meteors are smaller than a grain of sand, so almost all of them disintegrate and never hit the Earth's surface. Intense or unusual meteor showers are known as meteor outbursts and meteor storms, which may produce greater than 1,000 meteors an hour.[1]

The origin of meteoroid streams

A meteor shower is the result of an interaction between a planet, such as Earth, and streams of debris from a comet. Comets can produce debris by water vapor drag, as demonstrated by Fred Whipple in 1951,[18] and by breakup. Whipple envisioned comets as "dirty snowballs," made up of rock embedded in ice, orbiting the Sun. The "ice" may be water, methane, ammonia, or other volatiles, alone or in combination. The "rock" may vary in size from that of a dust mote to that of a small boulder. Dust mote sized solids are orders of magnitude more common than those the size of sand grains, which, in turn, are similarly more common than those the size of pebbles, and so on. When the ice warms and sublimates, the vapor can drag along dust, sand, and pebbles.
Each time a comet swings by the Sun in its orbit, some of its ice vaporizes and a certain amount of meteoroids will be shed. The meteoroids spread out along the entire orbit of the comet to form a meteoroid stream, also known as a "dust trail" (as opposed to a comet's "dust tail" caused by the very small particles that are quickly blown away by solar radiation pressure). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meteor_shower

Ecotourism and Nature based Educational Tourism
Ecotourism involves visiting natural areas with the objectives of learning, studying or participating in activities that do not bring negative effects to the environment; whilst protecting and empowering the local community socially and economically.
Environmental issues.
EcoTour operators offer relevant information and advice on how travelers can minimize their impact on the ecosystem as well as how they can contribute to the protection of fragile ecosystems. By offering travelers the opportunity to participate in conservation or preservation projects. An important element of this type of project is education. The goal is that through participation, eco travelers will return home with increased awareness and concern for environmental issues and therefore continue to behave in an environmentally conscious way.
Social issues:
By involving the local community in aspects of planning, decision-making and management of ecotourism. This encourages the empowerment of individuals. Finally, it educate travelers through leaflets, interpretation and advice from Tour operators or guides about the culture, customs and etiquette of locals. This prevents conflict or offence between local and traveler interactions that may be caused through misunderstanding or ignorance.
Economic issues:
By employing local people whenever possible and paying fair wages. This prevents exploitation and benefits the local economy by preventing leakages of the revenue acquired through tourism. Many Ecotour operators are involved in working on initiatives and projects with the local community such as training and education programmes.
130.    The main idea of the text is …..
A. education and community participation become a new trend in tourism
B. at present, travel industries balance enjoyment and education
C. tourists are required not only to enjoy the nature but also to pressure it
D. tourism is no longer about visiting and enjoying the beauty of places
E. ecotourism may be defined as an environmentally responsibly visit to nature

The walrus is a sea mammal. It is in the order pinnipedian and comes from the family of Odobenidae. Its scientific name comes from the Greek word Odobenidus rosmarus meaning ‘tooth walker’. The walrus is the largest of the sea-lions.
They have thick clumsy bodies with grey or brown skin, flippers and a thick layer of blubber, which is fat. It has two ivory tusks and its feet are flatter into flippers. It has big whiskers on its upper lip.  A male walrus is called a bull, a female is called a cow and a baby is a calf.  Male walruses can weight up to 12000 kilograms and can grow as long as 3.6 metres. Females are smaller and usually weight 800 kilograms and are approximately 2.5 metres long.
Walruses live in the Arctic seas of North America, Europe and Asia. They migrate in spring and autumn following food and the pack ice which retreats at that time.
Walruses are carnivores. They use their big whiskers to find bottom dwelling invertebrates such as clams, snails, crabs and shrimp. Then they blow the food loose so that they can get to it. They need their prey to move or they can get to it because of their large tusks.
Walruses don’t stay in the water all of the time and spend much of the time resting on ice flows. They use their tusks, which grow to about 60 centimeters long in the female and 120 centimeters long in the male, to pull themselves out of the water and to ‘walk’ on the ice. The males also use their tusks to fight with other males in order to earn the right to mate.
The walrus mates in February and March but the foetus doesn’t begin to grow until later in June. When calves are born they weight between 38 and 63 kilograms. When they are babies they have a lot of hair but when they grow up their hair falls out leaving only a little on the upper lip.
131.    We know from paragraph 4 that ….
A. the female’s tusk is 180cm
B. the female’s tusk is a half of males
C. the male’s tusk is a half of females
D. the male’s tusk is a shorter than females
E. the female’s tusk is longer than females

The area that was once the engine room of Britain’s mining industry has a haunting beauty. The towns of Redruth and its sibling Camborne were West Cornwall’s mining heartland. It is a place where one must spend time to recognize the beauty. Five kilometers to the west, the village of Portreath overlooks an area of sand, book ended by cliffs.
Portreath is the best village in the area. It began as the playground of the Redruth Camborne  miners. Now it is slightly middle-class resort filled in summer with families on holidays. In the mid 19th century the small harbour bustled with sailing vessels.
Corwall’s mining landscapes have been nominated for World Heritage status. At dusk, we climb Cam Brea, an Iron Age settlement and hill fort close to Redruth. We count more than a dozen mine chimneys against the evening skyline. Standing on top of Cam Brea, it is hard to believe that 150 years ago these relics of the mining industry shrieked with the sound of heavy machinery. Now, except for chirruping of the birds, all is silent.
If you’ve got the legs and the stamina there’s no better way to get to know Cornwall’s wild Atlantic seaboard than to hike it. The National Trust looks after 260 km of Cornish coastline, sand dunes and sheltered bays for walkers. On a breezy day with the sun flitting in and out of clouds, we take the local bus from Redruth to St Agnes and hike 12 km south to Portreath.
The 18 km cycling trail is the best in that part of the country. It takes you from Portreath in the west to the river at Devoran in the southeast. The path follows the tracks of the horse drawn tramways that once hauled ore to the ports.
Surfing is popular on the beaches of west Cornwall. There is always a hardly group of surfers in the waves in all weather. New quay is the surf capital but there are plenty of good beaches north towards Padstow and south to St Ives.

E. Cornwall’s mining landscape
134.    What happened if you had the legs and the stamina? There is no ….. to know Cornwall’s wild Atlantic seaboard than to hike it.
A. better method to know
B. better way to get
C. good method to reach
D. good way to touch
E. better way to arrive
135.    Standing on top of Cam Brea, it is hard to believe that 150 years ago these relics of the mining industry shrieked with the sound of heavy machinery.” (Paragraph 3). The underlined word is closest in meaning to …….
